Acclamation to snub Woodbine and bring Breeders’ Cup back in the equation – Next start in the Hirsch Turf Championship at Santa Anita
The Breeders’ Cup is back on the table said trainer Donald Warren, who conditions the 5-year-old Acclamation for owners Mary Hilvers, Peter Hilvers – E. W. Johnston and Judy Johnston.
Acclamation was going to skip the Breeders’ Cup series and instead, head to Woodbine to run in the Grade 1, $1.5 million Canadian International on 16 October, 2011, but some complicated shipping arrangements made his connections change their mind.
Now, as the trainer said that the Breeders’ Cup is back in consideration, the son of Unusual Heat is to stay home and run in the Grade 2, $150,000 Clement L. Hirsch Turf Championship at Santa Anita on 2 October, 2011.
The top Californian older horse is on a serious high, winning four races on the trot. The four-race winning streak includes the Grade 2 Jim Murray Handicap, Grade 1 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap, Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes and the Grade 1 Pacific
Classic.
The older horse has shown great adaptability skills, winning his first three races on turf and then switching on to Del Mar’s Poly Track to run in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at about 1 ¼ miles on 28 August, 2011.
Acclamation was up against Twirling Candy and Game on Dude, as the latter fell away to finish fourth, but Twirling Candy made a race out of it, but not quite getting there as he finished second behind Acclamation.
Last four races were at Hollywood Park and Del Mar, as Acclamation bags 4 out of 6 starts this season, and looks hungry for more eyeing the Grade 2 Hirsch Turf Championship and the heavily pursed Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf o 5 November at Churchill Downs.
Acclamation’s Breeders’ Cup Turf hopes will lie pending on his effort in the 1 ¼ miles Hirsch Turf Championship, as Acclamation requires a $100,000 fee to become eligible for the Breeders’ Cup.
Acclamation has now gone on to win 8 races out of 27 starts, and shot up his earnings to a massive $1.5 million. He can double it at the end of the year if he goes on to win the Breeders’ Cup race.
