I will be travelling to various parts of Europe. Italy is in my list. Going to Milan, Venice, Florence & Rome.

I need some help to help us decide which location should I pick for my accomodations. I want some place centralised.

Venice ( In May 3 – Out May 5 , 2 nights )

  1. Based on your criteria of centralized, Hotel Venice Villa Dori can be eliminated. It isn't on the islands; it's on the mainland. Villa Stella sounds reasonable, but it's on the Lido island. You would have to take the vaporetto back and forth to get to Piazza San Marco. The other three are all within 30 - 40 minutes walking distance to Piazza San Marco. Personally, I would go with the first one - it's close to the train station and vaporetto stops and is the highest rated (including the safety rating). If I stay overnight in Venice (during Carnevale and Il Redentore), I stay in hotels near San Marco, so I don't have any specific experience with any of these choices, but do know the locaqtions.

  2. When i went to venice i stayed in a beach city called jesolo. you take a ferry type boat into venice and it is much easier than trying to find a hotel that is actually in venice.  jesolo is a late night city and there is lots of shopping right on the beach. it was one of my favorite places that i visited in italy!

  3. I can't say much about the rest of Europe, but anywhere in Italy is pretty centralized in the major cities.  Every city is pretty small.  I would check out Milan before you go there, it's really not that interesting if it's not during fashion week.  Check out trip advisor as well.  Generally you can get the rooms cheaper than listed on there, but there are honest reviews.  We spent no time in our hotel room while there.  They have hostel reviews as well.  Also with neighborhoods, don't get hung up on them.  There are so many busses and trains that run so regularaly you don't need to be worried.  In Florence we stayed in a residential neighborhood.  About every 10 minutes there was 1 bus that brought us to the Duomo, from there you can get anywhere.  You can walk Venice in a day.  You don't need to worry.  In Rome if you stay near the Termini it's a lot cheaper and I didn't get robbed (although I did see a Gypsy defecating in a box).
