According to a very old Indian health related belief, yogurt is to be avioded after lunch?

The reasons are the same as for not having water, especially cold water, just after lunch or heavy meal. When we have food, our digestive systems generate heat to break it into components and all. I can't give you the scientific facts but you get the idea.

Yogurt has a tendency to cool the system and thus, food is not digested properly, which in turn can cause several problems. Allow the digestive system to go through the process of digestion (which takes about one-one and a half hours) and then have water or yoghurt.

since indian people have used yogurt for many years, they must know what they are talking about!  a  health food shop with someone who actually understands alternative health not just a sales person, should be able to give you the answers your searching for. I'm glad you mentioned this as i will search for myself and ask my doctor {whom is indian} .

more than likely because all milk and dairy products are hard for most people to digest ...............  as the day progresses our level of hydrochloric acid in our tummy's decreases ......  so it's makes sense to eat your milk and dairy products before noon when your digestive juices are at their peak ♥

Normally Indians do eat raïta during their meals. Lassies, made with yoghurt,  are taken with meals or without meals. Your question would mean that you can't have a lassy either then. This is very strange because a lassy is, with tea, the drink of choice for most Indians. I find your question very interesting and will look forward to read all the answers.
