    seems to me I was left alone plenty in NJ by age 10 or 11, maybe sooner, and look how I turned out :)

    Like most States, NJ has no formal limit. Too much depends on the circumstances.

    Leave a 9 year old alone for 5 minutes while you ask the next door neighbor if you can borrow a cup of sugar? No problem.

    Leave a 14 year old alone for a month while you go on an overseas vacation? Big problem.
