I am reviewing a test with my son and have looked at the Earth Science reference tables to compare the different densities listed. He chose the inner core as being the most dense (12.7-13.0g/cm 3) and it was marked wrong. The other choices are the crust which totals at 5.7 the mantle (3.3-5.5) and the outer core (9.9 -12.1) There is no density listed for the plastic mantle that I can see. Am I reading the reference tables incorrectly? Thanks for any help.

  1. The inner core is the most dense.  If this was marked wrong, the grading is in error.

  2. agreed, the inner core is most dense

5.7 seems to high for the crust though
