Since our existence has been only for 2 million years according to theories while we have many creatures that survived for 100-200 millions of years and have Dinosours as ancestors; does this mean they are more successful in survival and evolution?

  1. Yes.

  2. In the animal kingdom, the fittest to survive are definitely physical.  In almost all animal groups, males adapt to female preferences so that the females pick them to mate with and thus continue their line, so the males that appeal to females the most are the ones whose genes get passed along.  Peacock males, for example, have huge, elaborate tails that aren't very practical when you think about it (running from predators, being hidden if necessary, etc) but this trait continues to be passed on because male peacocks adapted to have these tails because the females like them.  So yeah, it's physical.

  3. Usually those who leave a remaining species, or relation to it.

  4. well, you could say that, but it's too early to tell.

It's like having microsoft existing for a year and saying that IBM is more successful because it has been around for 40 years.  10 years later, the tide has completely turned.

(not that I really think we'll live as long as dinosaurs did, just saying don't jump to conclusions)

  5. I think that in terms of evolution, the ones who were able to adapt to their environment, whether that be because they were able to survive off physical strength or mental capacity, I think to a certain point, both play an important role. A smart, but slow animal probably would not survive millions of years, just as a fast but stupid animal would not either. I think the animals that have survived for so long were just able to adapt to their environment and change their physical and biological attributes in order to stay alive...obviously over millions of  years.

  6. which is better a fast cat or a sneaky cat? sure a fast cat can close the distance but a sneaky cat dosn't need to close distance quickly because it can get really close before being noticed. in some ways intelligence and strength are interchangeable.

  7. both - the ones who figure out how to avoid their predators and the ones who fight and kill their predators.

  8. Evolution is random. It doesn't select either for brains or brawn. Instead it's the organisms that best deal with their environment that survive to pass on their traits to offspring.

Arguably it's insects that have been the most successful at survival. Again it's the way they have adapted to the enviorment.

  9. The fact we keep finding so many living fossils is once again proof that there is no evolution.

Evolution would see the week perish while the stronger survive but many times we see the two living side by side. Both are unique and have only one thing in common and that is their creator.

  10. Survival of the fittest simply refers to an organisms ability to successfully pass its genes on to the next generation. So, they're the smooth ones who can talk a girl out of her panties...

i dont think evolution is looked at in terms of being successful or not...it just is what it is....change in allele frequencies in a population that eventually produce noticeable physical/genetic differences.

  11. No, those who leave the most ancestors.

  12. brains over come braun almost always.
