Yes I agree, the 1997 deregulation of the mortgage industry was based on greed, as well as, Bush's inaction for the last 7 years. So, is this oil motivated war in Iraq and the energy dilemma. Fortunately, capitalism and democracy have a few  built in mechanisms that correct too much greed, two of those are a recession and free elections. Remember, the Great Depression of the 1930's was a painful correction, but a free election put FDR in office and we came through stronger. In a cyclical economy, people suffer from time to time. There will all ways be good and bad times. It's part of the law of nature.
