Ok , like many people , Im always broke like a joke. The question is , Do bank (mine is credit union) cares if you always have zero balance in your account? I have the free checking and no minimum balance account but I always wipe my account clean(always leave around 2 bucks he he he) everytime my paycheck got direct deposited. Should I worry that they will close my account?

  1. No.  Your account can go inactive if you do nothing with it, like no direct deposit, or regular deposts, checks cashed.  It takes a few years of inactivity before the account will close, and the bank will notify you that the account is inactive.  I'm not sure how credit union works though.  As long as you are using the account, it's not going to close.

  2. I don't think your empty bank account is the problem you should be concerned with.  It is obvious that you are not living within your means.  You need to cut back on your spending or increase your means.

Sit down and list all your regular bills.  Put them in priority order -- house/utilities, food, car, credit cards, etc. Look at those bills carefully for ways to cut.  For example, your phone bill:  do you really need call waiting and those other extra fee services?  Are you paying a monthly line maintenance fee?  You could cut your phone bill in half by getting rid of the fluff.

Try carrying around a notepad and mark down every cent your spend for a week or so.  You will be amazed at how much money you waste.
