I had a debt that I owe to a storage company in CA, they sent a letter to my job stating that they were trying to contact me concerning a debt which is perfectly legal, they didn't disclose any information about how much the debt was or anything like that. I took care of the debt and my job was asking me for a receipt as proof that it was taking care of i told them that I didn't have to supply them with one. Then my supervisor took it upon himself to call this company without my consent to get information about my account. The company then faxed him a copy of my information with with the account number, when payments were made and how much they were made for without contacting me to ask if it was ok to disclose this information. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. My question is, is that illegal and if so what can I do about it?

  1. I would think this was illegal.  I know that a credit card company is not allowed to disclose any information to a spouse if they are not on the account.  I know when I did telemarketing and sold long distance telephone service, we were only allowed to talk to someone that was able to make the decisions for changing the phone service.

If your supervisor gave the company your information, he may have pretended to be you.  You would have to find out from the storage company.  He would have your info, like address and SSN.
