Accountant, Neurologist or Dentist?

I just need a little FEEDBACK as to which one you think is generally better than the other. (In terms of pay, how long you're at uni etc etc)

Pretty much any pros and cons you can provide with any of the three occupations.

I'm trying to gather as much info as I can before selecting my senior subjects. (:

thanks.

  1. I can only say what I know. I am an accountant based in Australia. I spent 3 years for my Bachelor's Degree, then I had to do my years doing my CPA subjects. Over here the option is either CPA or CA. Could be a year or two in completing the whole thing - depending on how you go. That's the minimum. You can do a Post Graduate or two or three afterwards.

Then (or along with that) you just work.. work... work... You can choose to work in a Practice. You have the option to run your own practice should you wish to do so. You will need to have your Practising Certificate and/or becoming a Registered Tax Agent.

You can choose to work in Industry.... becoming an Internal Accountant of a company, etc.

The pay is.... sufficient. The salary level is higher when you work in industry - than in practice. The expectation is higher when you work in a chartered or CPA practice.

If you have the choice - go for a dentistry course. The CPD requirement of my dentist clients is nowhere near as stressful, head-achey and time consuming as ours (with our tax legislation). And - at the same age - their income is 3 times mine.

By the way - I am just guessing, the CPD requirement of a neurologist would be a lot lot more than ours. But they would get remunerated a lot more than me as well.

  2. They are all considered "top brand" occupations and degrees and all would have to have the same subjects.... and study time... as you have to specialise.... good luck

  3. i'm italian
