  1. You need either a bachelor's degree in accounting, or you need a bachelor's in some other field but you have to take at least 30 hours of accounting, some business law, and other business classes.

Each state has their own board of CPA examiners, and there will be a web site that tells prospective students what you need.

Becoming a CPA used to require a bachelor's degree, then 2 years experience in accounting working under the supervision of a CPA.  Now, it requires the bachelor's degree, a master's in accounting, and 1 year of experience.

The exam is LONG, and it's extremely hard.  Many applicants take it 2 or 3 times before they pass.  http://www.cpa-exam.org/

Here's the web site for the American Institute of CPAs:

And here's another site that has information about accounting degrees, scholarships, becoming a CPA, professional opportunities, etc.:

  2. I've been in Accounting for over 15 years. Its hard to give you one peice of advise. But I can say, Math classes at your level or even high school aren't really what you'll be needing down the road. I'd say.. pick an area that interests you most and take more classes in that direction. ie: tax, construction (project) accounting, Budgets/Forecasting, etc. Anything can be learned but if you have a specific like and skill, finding a job you love will come easier.

    Good Luck
