Accredited home school program?

Can someone give me a list of accredited home school programs in the state of Tennessee.

I found one program called Bridgeway Academy which is based in Pennsylvania but I'm not sure if s/o from TN can enroll....http://www.homeschoolacademy.com/

Is this school accredited in TN?

Also, when you register for home school do you have to buy the curriculum that that program sells or can you buy your own?

Do you withdraw the child immediately or do you have to wait?

I'm withdrawing my child in the middle of the school year so will the high school credits just transfer over?

  1. Check out Home School Legal Defense Association website for info on how to begin homeschooling in your state.  http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?St...

I've used A Beka curriculum, and they have accredited programs. http://www.abekaacademy.org/

There are lots of accredited programs.  Bob Jones University has a homeschool program that allows you to "lease" a hard drive with the full school year lessons.  You keep the hard drive for a year, so that you finish at your own pace.

    I'd check out http://cathyduffyreviews.com/major-publi...

for information on major publishers.  It helps narrow down the list a bit.

  2. I have friends in TN that home school, but their kids are younger, so about the HS credits I can't answer, but they just attached to a church school and became a satellite school off them , they pay for the curricula and teach it at home, then turn it back in to the school at the end of the year. This is one way to home school in TN. There are others check the HSLDA web site for more info. Good Luck.

Here are two sites to get you started.  You do not say what part of TN you are from, but this is the group from Middle TN (mthea)  You will find most of the links you need here.  The link will take you to their umbrella school page.  Also, I included a link to the umbrella school that we have used for 4 yrs. now.  They are wonderful and helped me tremendously in a mid year move from OH to TN.  David Parkerson is the head of the school and is phenomenal.  Additionally, this is the season for curriculum fairs.  I suggest that if you are in the Middle TN area, that you get yourself to the curriculum fair coming up in a couple of weeks.  The workshops will get you going and you will see more curriculum choices that you can shake a stick at.

Also, check the HSLDA website for a summary of the TN homeschooling laws.  You do not have to wait, but to be honest, with only about 6 wks to go in the school year, you may want to consider waiting and doing the work in a less frantic way during the summer.  Note....if this is due to a  suspension, you may have a harder time finding an umbrella school.  Many do not accept suspended students, or those with records.

Remember, you can always just register with your LEA and homeschool on your own.

    Good luck.
