Most people have been brainwashed to believe that only "real" medicine (ie., that which is prescribed by a 'real' doctor) is beneficial. Years of programming is hard to change. But acupuncture IS becoming very popular and more and more accepted by the medical and scientific community.

In fact, many doctors (MDs) work with or refer to aupuncturists.

However, health care is an extremely competitive business and the medical/pharmaceutical industry is not going to easily give up a huge portion of its revenue to practitioners who do not feel the need to prescribe $100 bottles of pills.

One thing I would like to point out, though, is that no one claims that acupuncture cures all diseases. It has been scientifically proven to be effective in the treatment of many diseases and conditions and without the negative side effects of drugs and the risks of surgery.

Accupuncture isn't covered by health insurance, and like any other therapy, works best with a proper diet, which many people aren't willing to change.

Because people nowadays want a quick cure that comes in a pill or such. Acupuncture takes several visits sometimes months to feel any change in the body. So if people don't get cured fast they don't think it is working..that is why acupuncture hasn't caught on as fast as it should.
