Question:

Accuracy of TV screen measurements?

A few years ago I purchased a 28inch Sony TV. I have just measured the screen (from corner to corner, not including any frame) and it is clearly a 26inch measurement. I have checked the Sony product code (KV-28FX68U) on the rear of the TV and it clearly states, not explicitly, that this is a 28inch product. My invoice states I have purchased a 28inch product. I'm trying to figure out what has happended, have I been conned by Sony, is it possible that someone has swapped the product code on the back before it was delivered to me, or does this happen sometimes. Do I have a claim against someone for this? I am trying to sell the TV on eBay now but dont want to be done for mis-selling!!!

  1. Usually the diagonal measurement is within 1" of what the screen size says. Most 60" televisions are usually around 59.5".

Are you measuring diagonally or from side to side? It's not usually off by that much of a margin, particularly on such a small screen.

  2. It happens sometimes, my 60" sony meausres just shy of 59 3/4, but my 50" Hitachi in my bedroom is not even 49 inches. It is based upon what the company deems is the correct measurement, diagonal or diagonal viewing area.
