Today is Wednesday night, and rain is forecasted for Saturday. I was wondering how accurate a weather forecast is 2-3 days out. Is the forecast usually accurate only a few days away or is there a good chance for a change?

  1. that's why you watch for consistency between forecasts. when it keeps changing they obviously don't know what's going on

  2. Where I live in VA, forecast 3 days out are usually very close. If they are calling for rain 3 days out, 90 percent of the time it rains. Depends on the chance of rain they are predicting. Most weather men should say, "There is a good chance of rain Saturday," or "There is a small chance of rain for Saturday." Usually if they call for a good chance of rain 3 days out, it usually rains. If it don't rain, then at least it is an overcast all day. Temps aren't always exact that they predict, but precipitation wise is usually accurate.

  3. an accurate weather forecast is only about 12 hours away.  any thing past that is just basically a hypothesis.  they base it on past patterns of weather and their instruments but most likely the forecast will change some by then
