  1. it depends on state, city, region, detectives certifications, and qualifications. Those factors as well as extra training courses, and assignment determine in most cases the responsibilities and duties of a detective.

You need to be a little more detailed because there are factors within each case and also what the DA, or ADA, department, and/or supervisor sets as directed limitations and assumed authorizations. Each case is different and may include or milt what duties and responsibilities a detective has for that specific case.

  2. Detectives are plainclothes investigators who gather facts and collect evidence for criminal cases. Some are assigned to interagency task forces to combat specific types of crime. They conduct interviews, examine records, observe the activities of suspects, and participate in raids or arrests. Detectives and State and Federal agents and inspectors usually specialize in investigating one type of violation, such as homicide or fraud. They are assigned cases on a rotating basis and work on them until an arrest and conviction is made or until the case is dropped.
