Question:

Acer Aspire 8920 Unable to do d2d recovery. I have a relatively new, high-spec Acer Aspire 8920

I have a relatively new, high-spec Acer Aspire 8920 laptop:
- Intel Centrino Duo 1.8Ghz
- Several Gb of memory
- 2 x 150 Gb HDD's
- NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GS
- MS Vista
- Blu-Ray, 18" screen, 5.1

The problem that I have is that I shut down the laptop as usual (no
shady downloads, no dodgy website visits, just reading the BBC News
website) one night. The next morning I couldn't log back on.

Originally it would take a bit longer than usual to lad (the Vista
green bars), but eventually it came to the log-in screen. The issue
here was that when I went to click on my profile to type in my password
(or use the finger print reader) the user boxes would vanish, but the
log-in background would remain - not loading, nothing.

I tried restarting a few times, until I got even less than the user
log-in boxes: a black screen with just a movable cursor (Ctrl+Alt+Del
didn't work, but the Caps and NumLock did). I would get the same result
when I tried to go into Safe Mode.

That is when I tried to do a complete recovery via Alt+F10 when the
Acer boot screen shows. This is something I have done previously when
software I had, conflicted with Vista and screwed everything up. The
agonising problem this time however is that when I do Alt+F10.....I
just get a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner.....nothing
happens.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to work around this issue? I
haven't deleted the secret partition or installed any rogue
