Hi I have an acer aspire one mini laptop. What I am trying to do is install the gimp image editor onto it. Now I have found a way on how to do this via the gimp website. Open terminal and enter "yum install gimp" This is simple enough, but the problem is when I type in the above it tells me that I need to be root in order to do it.

Anyway what I then do is open a new terminal and type in " login" it then asks for the login password, which i type in and press enter. Biut when I do this it tells me that the login is incorrect.

I do not understand this as when I come to install software via the package manager it again asks me for the same root password and it all works succesful. I just cant understand that when I come to the terminal it does not work.

Would anyone be able to help me?

Basically I just want to be able to logon as the root username to execute the install method for the gimp.

I am on Linpus Linx

Thanks

Ben
