Hey guys, I am thinking about getting a Acer Aspire One. I'm wondering if they sell it in US? Can I install Mac OS X on it? Where to buy it? What's the exact serial number I should get? (like is it a A 110?) Can i get a 6 cell battery? Is it worth it? Do you guys like it? I have a mac but can't afford Mac air so I'm thinking of getting Aspire one instead.

  1. Mac OS X is reported to work on the Acer Aspire One, see Youtube. Instructions on how to install Mac OS X can be found on insanelymac.com forums.

Check google for online retailers that may offer the best price. There are essentially two Versions of the Acer Aspire, the A110 has 512MB RAM and an 8GB SSD and will come with Linux only - installing Windows (or Mac OS) on it is not recommended as the SSD slows these operating systems down significantly. The A150 comes with either Linux or Windows, has 1GB of RAM and a 120GB HDD. The battery runtime is about 3 Hrs on the Linux model and 2.5Hrs on the Windows model. Besides that, there are no differences. A 6-cell battery will eventually be available but might be expensive.

I like the Acer Aspire best in its price-range. It is as affordable as the EeePC, but of higher quality. Its display is bright, although the colors require calibration. They keyboard is pretty usable, too.

Please note that the Acer Aspire One is not designed for installing Mac OS X and that it will not work with the Mac OS that came with your Mac. Check insanelymac and the osx86project for advice on installing Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware.
