  1. If you wish to do a degree in social work (the only current sw qualification I know of) then you have to have the appropriate GCSE's A Levels etc.. to get on a degree course. If, like alot of us, you spent your school days indulging in all things NOT school, having a ball and generally not getting any qualifications, then, DONT PANIC! What you need to do is an Access To SW course. Most Regional/Further Eduction/Higher Education Colleges run these courses. They are normally part time (2 years) or full time (1 year) and provide you with an end qualification that allows you to go on a SW Degree course. Soemtimes if you have been out of education for a long time they advise you do a quick (6 - 12 months) back to learning course that prepares you for the college/education lifestyle!

Another good option is to look at your locval councils website in your case www.southwark.gov.uk/yourservices/social... or just www.southwark.gov.uk and search for the link on Social Services. They sometimes are williong to second people to do SW qualifications as as a country we are desparately short of SW's (something to do with loads of work for no massive immediate financial reward!). This means that a local authority will put you through your training and then employ you, not a bad deal!

    Anyhow good luck!
