Achievements xbox 360?

Question

what is the purpose of the achievements in games for the xbox 360 do you get awarded points to spend on things like videos and games if you complete all the achievements ina game or is it more for bragging rights between gamers...?

It's mostly for bragging rights.  You have no idea how far people will go just to remain atop the leaderboard when it comes to achievement points.  They will play just about any game they can get their hands on, even if the game sucks big time (Can you say Bullet Witch)?  

Second reason is for MS to make money.  Since arcade games include achievement points, people who wants to be at the top of the leaderboard will buy all arcade games just to get the points.

Finally, it adds replay values to games.  For gamers who wants to unlock all those achievement points, they have to play the game over several times to unlock all points.

achievements are what people use to tell how big of a gamer you are if you have a low score. or a high score. to tell you the truth i don't like the achievements. i think is the person that's playing the game that is skilled. not how many points you can get. so people can rank you on xbox live

to me achievement show what kind of gamer a good gamer or a bad one and to me it also sets challenges in games like to get 100 percent in gta 4and its pretty fun

Achievements basically give you bragging rights.  Showing people how much points you have and how you got a really hard achievements.  They sound lame, but it's really addictive, fun, and entertaining.

achievements r for bragging aswell, but they also unlock certain things in games,

e.g In halo 3 doing certain achievements unlocks new armour and finishing all the halo 3 achievements unlocks the katana body piece (lol im NOT a halo fanatic)

Bragging rights. I think it just shows how much time you spend on the games. Sometimes you unlock things when you earn certain achievements.
