Achilles tendon: Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh upbeat about LB Terrell Suggs’ recovery – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh is upbeat about linebacker Terrell Suggs’ progress in recovery from a partially torn Achilles tendon, saying the player is gaining previous strength and fitness but did not give a timeline for his possible comeback.
It is the first update on Suggs’ injury since the start of the season and although the news is encouraging, the team does not have a timeframe when the star performer will be back in squad.
The coach said:
"He has his target date. He is doing well. The main thing we want to do now is make sure there is no setback, and he continues to get in shape and continues to get stronger."
John said the team will make sure Suggs is hundred percent to avoid a possibility of setback, which is more likely in case of return of the linebacker to action without being fully healthy.
He said:
"Football shape will be a factor. As soon as he gets on the field, it's not like he is going to be back to Defensive Player of the Year form. We need to all understand that. Just give him a little space and let him kind of grow into this thing."
Suggs suffered the injury in April this year in controversial circumstances. An outside view is that he suffered it while playing basketball but the player and his agent denied the claim and said he was injured while doing training at the team’s facilities.
Irrespective of the controversy around cause and place of the injury, Suggs had earlier set November as deadline for his comeback from the injury but later, after being criticised by the coach and some commentators for being unrealistic about the recovery
process, he stopped speculating timelines for his return.
Some reports had earlier pointed out at a sense of fear among the Ravens that the player might well be out of the side for the entire season but now the coach has denied the worst possibility and said the player has made encouraging progress in the recovery
process.
The Ravens are due to face the Houston Texans in the game number seven of the season and according to some commentators the linebacker might target that game for his return. The team has not denied or accepted validity of these suggestions.
