If the Hydrengas in the garden have pink blooms, is the soil acidic or alkaline?

On alkaline soils almost all the blue Hydrangea varieties turn pink or red-purple.

On acid or neutral  soils pink varieties may turn blue or purple.

It really depends on the variety of the hydrangea. There are some varieties that are pink in alkaline soil & blue in acid soil. Acid soil enriches the flower color, plain white varieties are a purer white, pink or 'red' varieties will be richer/darker pink & never turn blue. You can take a soil sample to a garden center for a soil test or buy a cheap soil testing kit, or start using an acid fertilizer & see what happens.

The flower colors may be controlled by adding aluminum sulfate to the soil prior to budding to produce or keep blue flowers; or by liming or adding quantities of superphosphate to the soil to produce the pink ones.
