I'm fifteen and have so much acne on my face it's annoying! I stopped wearing make-up about 10 days ago (thinking it would help), and I wash my face twice daily with scrub. Believe it or not - it got WORSE! I don't understand what I did wrong. Any tips on how to make it go away? School starts monday and I understand I can't make it go away that fast, but I want to know how to make it go away before pictures, please help.

  1. Firstly, don't pick your pimples. That leaves horrible scars and is worse for your skin.

Definitely don't scrub every day, twice a week at the most, letting two days in between. Using a natural product for your face wash is actually really good for your skin. Burt's Bees, Aveda, whatever works. Take some more time washing your face, lathering it up.

Use toner for sure, but moisturizer as well. Then, spot treatment with Benzoyl Peroxide during the day and Salicylic Acid at night. Just make sure to follow through with a skin care routine- it takes a while to take affect.

    Good Luck! xD

  2. Iam a Registered Nurse and I specialize in skin care and teen acne.

In my experience of 12 years alot of commercial store bought products DO NOT WORK! They contain way too much benzoyl peroxide which over dries your skin and causes irritations. Often they contain too much of what you dont need, or too little of what you do need!

PLEASE READ THIS WITH YOUR MOM if you are under 18, I have a great solution for you!

Your question is very broad and you need to get professional advice. I will explain why it's a broad question!

Your age plays a role! Do you always have breakouts?

However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produced. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop.

Genetics may also be a cause. It is a myth that greasy food or chocolate causes breakouts.

However, using make-up sponges that are not changed or washed often can contaminate the pores with bacteria which may develop into acneic breakouts.

If you are a teenager ( which I assume that you are) your hormones play a definite role in your breakouts.

If you have severe breakouts than you might need medication. There are many factors.

The most important thing is that you need products that are AGE APPROPRIATE! Every age group has different products appropriate for them. If you are young than you need milder products as to not dry out your beautiful young skin.

The problem with commercial skin products is that they are manufactured for MASSES OF PEOPLE and are not specifically made for different peoples' needs.

Your skin type is different than mine and your age differs from mine so how is it logical that we both use the same skin product for breakouts. We need different strengths of cleansers and toners. Do you kind of understand what I am getting at?

Here is my STRONG SUGGESTION for you. I refer all my students and patients to this website:

    www.aboutyourskincare.com

You need to consult with professionals and on this website YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS FOR FREE AND A SKIN EXPERT/PHYSICIAN WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. It would be a shame if you dont take advantage of this free service.

Lastly, they have incredible products for breakouts and they make them specifically for every kind of skin type. That means that if your breakouts are more severe than mine, than while we both will buy the same product yours will have stronger ingredients than mine will.

They have a mild glycolic acid cleanser that's great for your type of skin and also a DRYING LOTION ( I have 3 bottles) that you put directly on your breakouts and the next day it's gone. It's truely magic in a bottle.

A basic guideline for properly taking care of your skin is this ( now if you're a young girl you will need fewer products than this):

    Night time:

    1. Exfoliate the skin

    2. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    3. Mild Glycolic Acid Toner ( cleans off the excess debris and balances the PH level of the skin).

    4. Drying Lotion used only on breakouts

    5. Moisturizer

    Morning:

    1. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    2. Moisturizing cream

The above is a standard you may need to only use one or two products. Visit: www.aboutyourskincare.com

As I suggested and click on the ASK FOR FREE section send them an email and you will get free expert skin care advice.

    Good Luck to you,

  3. You are asking an age old question that no one has the answer for, even tho all the advertising you see make claims to curing it.  I've had it my whole life, as did my kids to varying degrees, and I can honestly say we have tried every product, pill, cream and treatment on the market.  I truly empathize with you:  It's awful when you want to look your best and have to deal with breakouts.

First of all, I am pretty sure what makes it worse, and that's scrubbing.  Use a cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, and see which your skin responds to better.  Some people respond to one over another.  Use a oil free non-comedogenic make up.  There's lots out there formulated for oily skin and breakouts. Acne starts under the skin, not on the surface, but we don't want to help it along with oily products.  Use a moisturizer that is for oily/breakout skin under your make up in the AM.

My daughter found that pure Tea Tree Oil placed right on a big pimple every few hours speeds up recovery time.  Try hot steam facials, and cover your head with a towel while the steam softens blackheads and opens pores.  Gently squeeze white headed pimples with super clean hands and a soft clean hankie after a good steaming.  Then apply a good toner after your skin has soothed a bit.

If you have insurance, the doctor can try some antibiotics and/or Retin A, but he'll want you to try other methods first.

Lastly, of all the acne products, my daughter has had some good results with Sensi-Clear.  It's inexpensive, compared to others, and has given her the best results of anything.  It's an on-line product.  Lastly, there are some foods that can inflame it.  My daughter really reacts to chocolate.  Good luck.

  4. It can get worse depending on your diet and the conditions that you live. If you work at a fast food restaurant, it'll get really bad because of the grease.

Schedule an appointment with your doctor and ask for acne creme. There's a really good kind called Duac, and Differin is pretty good too. A lot of things the doctor comes up with will probably be good too.

And if you put make-up on again, try buying the mineral kind that doesn't clog your pores.

  5. You should go see your doctor asap. That's what i did and now my face is all cleared up :)

  6. WalMart.  Cosmetics Department.  Find Clearasil Acne Treatment cream in tubes.  Look next to it for Equate brand, about half the price, same thing.  Ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide, 10%.  A tube goes a long, long way.  Wash your face, thoroughly, but gently.  Apply a very, very small amount directly to the affected areas with your fingertip, and rub it in gently until it disappears.  Do this a couple of times a day, and your pimples will clear up like magic.  One caution:  This stuff will bleach pillow cases, sheets, and towels.  Wash your face before going to bed, and apply it again in the morning.

  7. my moms a dermatologist, and is a pro at skin care.

i can give you her website, but you might not have enough time to visit her if you live far.

but if you wear coverup, stop for a while (it doesn't let your skin breath, which cause more breakouts) and scrubbing usually helps but it depends what wash you use.

also its best to scrub at night.

i use Leaf & Rusher Green Tea acne foaming cleanser (for scrub) and Vivant derma-gel (put it on before bed and it dries of your pimples. then it turns brown and peels off, sounds gross but it works)

I also attached my moms link if you want to check it out.

    hope i helped

  8. Do not scrub to hard and to often. You should try the Neutrogena skin i.d, it works really well

  9. don't use scrubs because they can make your skin irritate your skin and this will produce more acne. i use all natural product on my face and it help me so much. it cut down on my break out so they don't last as long and are not as bad. also you can still were eye makeup just don't wear foundation and heavy blush. also remember just have patence and you will see improvement.

  10. Use Proactive or

AcneFree   It's just like proactive(even says it on the box) but cheaper (about 20 bucks) and easy to get. Just go to walmart and they will have it. I use to have acne but once i started AcneFree it all went away and fast. It is a three step process just like proactive.

Try the  Proactiv Refining mask  it really does work overnight. If you don't want to join the proactive club buy it on Ebay!

  11. cut out carbs, refined sugar, red meat, sdoa, and sugary cereal, caffeine completely until you see an improvement. Acne is linked to diet.

Don't scrub too hard, you are irritating ur skin.

  12. I had very bad acne as well ... Buh I satrted to use "DOVE BEAUTY BAR" on mah face, it works really well && it doesn't dry out your skin. I also use "PANOXYL" ... Buh only apply it onto tha pimples, since this drys them out.

Use a egg mask, mix up tha whites from a egg && apply it to your face. Wait till it dries then take it off. This should help, :D :D Here is a link to other homemade acne masks, http://www.mybeautyrecipes.com/homemade_... ... :D :D

I hope I helped, && good luck with your skin.
