  1. It really depends on what you plan on playing ( what kind of music)& they both have cheap & expensive versions.  I've been playing Bass for 27 years, and I still flip flop with what I like to play.

  2. I'll repeat what a friend of mine says "How many songs do you want to learn how to play that are played on an acoustic guitar?"

I'll add that for a beginner an electric beginners kit is just as expensive as a decent acoustic.

Finally an acoustic requires more strength to fret the notes then an electric. This may be a problem for you when you just start out.

  3. Acoustic- Cheap because all you need is a guitar, the fretboard is wider which is harder to play with small hands, acoustic is good for folk, country ect. music. Best brands are Gibson, Fender, Ibanez and Takemine in my opinion.

Electric- Expensive (depending on if you buy the gear seperate or in a starter pack which is cheaper) For electric you need an amplifier and cable. The fretboard is smaller so easier to play with small hands. This guitar is used in classic rock, rock, heavy metal, ect. The best brands in my opinion are Fender, Gibson, Ibanez (all of these either over cheap starter packs or have a sub brand which makes the same guitar but cheaper, Fender has Squier Gibson has Epiphone.
