Question:

Acquiring French Citizenship via Ancestry?

I can't seem to find a straight answer to this question from my cursory scan on google, so I thought I'd ask it here.

I have a grandmother who was French (she's now deceased) who married an American (if that matters). I also have an aunt (the same grandmother's daughter, my father's half-sister) who has both American and French citizenship.

Do you know whether I could obtain French citizenship based on my given ancestry? Thanks!

P.S. I've already attempted to e-mail my local French embassy, but they've yet to get back with me.

  1. Only the French authorities can give you an answer. Try ringing the embassy, or write a snail-mail letter.
