Across The Bay to follow up Kelso win in Carlisle’s Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Graduation Chase
The return to chasing brought plenty of happiness to Across The Bay, as he claimed victory at Kelso last month. Donald McCain’s superstar is highly likely to build on the fresh 7-length success and shine in Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Graduation Chase, to be hosted by Carlisle on Monday, November 12, 2012.
Across The Day did nothing special ahead of going on vacations in April. He ran a few good races, but in defeat. Things finally turned in his favour last month, when he returned in style at Kelso, winning the EDF-ER Fallago Rig Handicap Chase with a lot of ease.
In the hands of Henry Brooke, the 4-1 chance showed no rustiness on his first start after a gap of more than six months. He made all, and travelled superbly to heap misery on the rest. No one could challenge the big fellow, who kept on strongly - grabbing the top prize by a huge margin of seven lengths.
Across The Bay’s confidence is currently at the peak level. Owned by Scotch Piper Syndicate, the Noel McLoughlin-bred is unlikely to slip things out of his hands in today’s crucial battle. So, he can easily be considered as the best choice for betting.
He is facing only four rivals over a distance of three miles and 110 yards. The class 2 meeting carries a handsome prize of £10,010. The affair is scheduled to get started at 14:25 GMT.
Cappa Bleu has serious chances too. Evan Williams’ trainee was last seen finishing fourth in the Grand National. A decent act would have given him good confidence, but no less than the best effort is enough here.
Beamazed is 2-2 here, but would be getting plenty of weight in a handicap. Sarando lost his way after winning this last year. For us, Paul Webber’s trainee is still a threat. Soft Spoken Guy is not in great form, and has a very stiff task.
A close battle is predicted between Cappa Bleu and Across The Bay. The latter returned to the winning ways last time, and could be hard to catch. Good luck to all the participants.
