  1. Get uv gel nails by a qualified technicial who is really good at doing them and they will last you a long time!  I was getting acrylic nails ffor months and they drove me crazy!  The edges near the cuticles would lift within days to a week so I needed them filled all the time.

Even if you only need them for three weeks.. they are great.  You cannot soak them off in acetone so just buff them all the way down to your real nail when you don't want them any more and let them grow out.  This will do less damage than acetone.

I love gel nails.  I can get them filled anywhere from two weeks to four weeks and they NEVER lift.  They look natural and also stay shiny and look brand new all the time.  I get the highest compliments all the time even when I think they need to be redone.

Just be sure to get real uv gel nails where they apply the liquid gel in stages and set under a uv light for each layer and NOT what they call powder gel nails where it is a powder and liquid mix.. Those are not the same at all.. They look and feel like acrylic and smell bad.  Real gel nails have no smell and are better for your nails than acrylic because you don't need to get them filled as often so there is hardly and fiing necessary at each visit.  As long as you keep up with th monthly maintenance, you will love them!!!

They look amazing.. google images under uv gel nails.  My tech uses IBD gel products and I will never use acrylic ones ever again.  These gels feel like my own natural nails.  They are light and the only issue I have had is that one layer of gel peeled up but was easy and painless for my tech to fix.

Also I have pink gel nails with the tip airbrused under the top layer of gel.  They look way better than any pink and white acrylics I had ever have.

The set will cost more initially but you will be happy..  I am because I spend less money to get them filled since I only have to go in once a month instead of a bi weekly to weekly visit to get my acrylics filled.

    Hope this helped!

    Good Luck!

  2. I don't quite understand why you would only have nails on for only 3 weeks or so. It's a waste of money, IMO. But - to answer your question: Acrylic nails are made of a monomer (the liquid) and a polymer (the powder). These two are combined and then applied over your natural nails. They are durable, but tend to be a tad bit fake looking, unless done by a highly skilled technician who uses nothing but the best available acrylic products, AND does not use plastic 'tips.'

Now, gel nails... Gel nails are NEVER a powder. Don't fall for that discount salon scam where they apply acrylic nails on you, then charge you the higher price for gels, and you walk out thinking you really do have gels nails. Hey, after all - that's what they told you they were, right. Wrong. It happens all the time to unsuspecting women in the cheaper salons. Simply stated, a UV nail gel is a GEL, not a powder. It has the look, and consistency of a hair styling gel. Some of these scam artists will go as far as telling you "it powder gel." If ANY liquid and powder is used on your nails, you have acrylic nails. Gel nails are applied in several thin layers, and each individual layer must be cured for 2 minutes under a special UV lamp. The object of the curing process is to polymerize the UV gel (make it harden). If your tech is NOT doing this, something is wrong because ALL traditional UV gel systems require individual cure times for each and every layer of gel that is applied.

Overall, gel nails are more realistic looking, and tend to be more flexible than acrylics - making them less prone to breakage, or chipping. They are also much shinier than acrylics, too. Both gels and acrylics are available in many different colors, so  avoid a tech who either uses 'tips' of the desired color of the extension (white, for example) or who airbrushes the color on. This is not the way to do gel nails. The best way to have gel nails applied is to have them sculpted. This is when the tech uses a nail form and places one over each fingertip. The entire nail is then built upon this form. Of course, when application is complete, the forms are removed. The use of forms results in much better looking, and thinner nails. Thus, they look more realistic as long as the tech is highly skilled in their application. You see, UV gel nails are easy to do, but very difficult to master. But the one downside is this: UV gel nails are non-porous. This means that liquids cannot penetrate the surface of the nail easily. In short, gel nails cannot be soaked off in pure acetone. They MUST be filed off. A highly skilled tech needs to file them off or you will likely suffer lots of damage to your natural nails. I do not suggest that you attempt this yourself at home. And whatever you do, DO NOT allow ANY tech to force your nail enhancements off. Nor do this yourself. It WILL cause lots of pain, and it WILL damage your natural nails - sometimes severely. It's simple. Acrylics are soaked off in pure acetone, and UV gel nails are always filed off.

In three weeks, how much damage will be done to your nails? Well, provided you stay away from the really cheap salons where they will drill  your nails down to nothing because "the acrylic stick better" (This is totally unnecessary to do), then your nails will be fine. I highly suggest you go to a highly skilled, and reputable nail tech.

    I hope this helps!

  3. accrylic.

if you get gel nails and only wanted them on three weeks it would be a waste of money.

  4. Gel nails can be more expensive than acrylic...

heres a pic of gel nails

    heres acrylic

    http://livingfragrance.files.wordpress.c...

the gel nails look more natural than acrylic and gel nails tend to stay on longer but hurt more if you accidentally break one..gel nails should last you about 3 weeks ... acrylic about 2 1/2

its up to you though ... just go to the salon that your gonna go to and check them out..
