I got a 24. I am not sure if this a good enough for most colleges. What would you consider a good score? Should I take it again, or is it useless if I did good on the SATs? Do colleges prefer both, or is just the SAT score good enough? Please help!!!

  1. It really depends on which colleges you're applying to - the national average is about 20.  If you did well on the SATs, then there's really no need to send in your ACT score.

  2. colleges would like to see SAT, but if u wanna do both 2 impresses them then do both. and ur ACT is k, but if u wanna take it over again then......GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. For some schools, a 24 is good enough, but if you're aiming to get into upper-tier and / or Ivy League schools, it's not going to happen.  I would go on collegeboard.com and check out College MatchMaker - you can put various criteria in (including test scores) to find good schools for you.  On collegeboard.com you can also look at profiles of schools that you are interested in, and see how you fit into their ACT score ranges.

I don't think I'm qualified to assess what a good score is on the ACT - I got a 30 the first time I took it, and I wasn't truly happy with my score until a few weeks ago, when I got a 33.  However, a 24 puts you in the 75th percentile nationwide - meaning that of all the people who took it, 75% of them scored lower than you did.

I would definitely recommend taking the ACT again - of people who take the ACT again, 55% see an increase in their score.

On your last question:  most colleges will accept either the ACT or SAT, and I haven't ever heard of any that want both.  I took the SAT in addition to the ACT, but that was because of the fact that I'm going to be recognized in the National Merit Program as a Commended Student this fall, so I didn't have much choice.

    Good luck!

  4. a 24 is good enough for lsu so im sure its good enough for most colleges.

i think you should take it again because most of the time the more times you take it the more your score improves.
