Actew AGL Royal Canberra Ladies Classic: Karen Lunn adds another win to her career – Golf News
Australian veteran golfer, Karen Lunn, finished the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour’s Actew AGL Royal Canberra Ladies Classic in an impressive style, as she eagled the par-five last hole to grab a four-stroke victory against Victoria’s Vicky Thomas.
Lunn was spectacular throughout the tournament, displaying the class she has long been known for.
She started her professional career 26 years ago and proved that she still has the guts to outclass her opponents on the field.
After the second round, she gained a three-stroke lead in the event, which she increased to six holes on the final round’s front nine she played.
However, Vicky Thomas and Kym Larratt produced some good shots to close the lead on the leaderboard.
One of the interesting things to watch on the course was Lunn’s sister, Mardi, caddying her for the entire tournament.
The nine-time LPGA winner was pleased to register another win in her career, especially with her sister on her bag.
“It was our first win together so that made today even better,” Lunn said. “I am absolutely thrilled”.
She added, “Every win is very special, but to win a tournament somewhere two hours from where I grew up, a place where I’ve spent a lot of time, my cousin came up and there were loads of people from Cowra in the gallery, so that was really nice and made
is more special”.
Her overall performance was mainly based on her excellent putting technique, which helped her throughout the event.
She astonished her opponents when she made some of the difficult putts look so easy at the end.
After completing her final round, she said that the front nine score was enough for her to keep calm and relaxed about the win. She did not have to worry about other players reaching her on the leaderboard.
However, when Thomas and Larratt unexpectedly came close to her in the final holes, she did not panic and ended the round with ease.
She is now looking forward to making a good run on 2012 LPGA Tour, while making some good finishes in the events she plays.
