Acting, and side jobs?

Well I want to work in the performance arts, and be an actor, maybe a voice actor, audition for plays, or shows. I am 19, I am on my second semester in college, I decided that this is my passion, something that I trully enjoy, and I am excited for this. I will be taking voice, dance, and acting, getting myself out there, but I also would like to know, should I have a fall back degree. My mom says she doesnt care, but alot of people say it smart to have a fall back degree to fall on to if acting doesnt work. So what should i go for on the side. I like math, science, i enjoy helping people, and health and fitness. Yet, I want to go with this performance biz.

  1. Many actors have secondary careers, because employment (and earnings) in acting can be very sporadic.  So I'd say yes, having a backup plan is probably a good idea.
