I really want to become an actress and I go to different sites looking at what people have to say. I was at actingcareerstartup. com and the man said to study the acting industry. What exactly do they mean by studying the acting industry?? Please don't consider my question stupid. I think I know what it means, but I want to know for sure. I just want to learn as much as I can. Any acting sites will good too. Thanks!! :)

  1. it means to get a degree in theater

    not stupid question, lol

good luck with the acting though!! :)

  2. To many people acting seems so exciting and glamorous because all they see is the end result - the movie or TV show - and the wealthy celebrity "star."

But it's a hard, grueling business in which YOU are the product and you are trying to sell yourself to a buyer (the producer or director) who has thousands of top-quality choices available to him. What's so special about you?

You need to learn how to audition and market yourself in addition to being able to act. Just having talent alone is never enough. You're going to need an agent, probably have to join one of the talent unions and develop a thick skin that can take rejection after rejection after rejection before you get your first (probably very minor) role.

If there's a talent agent in your town, start there. See if you can just get an information interview. If you decide this is really something you want, then plan on devoting yourself to it 100%. It has to be a passion if you have any hope of succeeding. If it's just something you think you'd like to do, it'll never happen. It has to drive you.

    Good luck.
