Acting Question?

How does the process work for people who wanted to try acting but if they didn't like it they didn't do it. I mean if I wanted to try it and if they don't want me I could continue with what I am doing now? I heard something about a reel? And I know someone that had to do a play. I don't care for plays but I would try acting. Any info on this?

  1. answer number one is correct in many ways, but there have been actors in films that have never done theater before, nor have been in a play, and they end up with lead rolls...just two off the top of my head: Emma Watson (Hermione form Harry Potter) (I'm sorry for my spelling) and  Dakota Blue Richards (Lyra from Golden Compass)

Emma tried out for 'a giggle'

Dakota tried out because she was read the books since she was young and watched the play, so when she heard about the roll she was determined to try out

...and obviously they both got it...

but you shouldn't do something if your only half hearted in it...things like this take a lot of effort and skill...and there may be more people who want it more that you, and you'd be taking up space

although either way, Good Luck ^^

  2. To see if you will enjoy the activity of acting start out taking acting classes at your local theater. If you realize you enjoy acting try auditioning for a play at your local theater if they turn you down and you didn't get the part you wanted or didn't even make in to the play it's not the end of the world just try out for the next one!

  3. You are not forced to continue in acting if it turns out you don't like it or it doesn't like you.  You just stop and start doing something else.  A demo reel is a video of your acting that you send to people looking for actors.  Plays are how all actors begin, stage and screen.  There is little point in you trying to be an actor if you stink and the way to find out is to be in a play, or better  yet, lots of plays. Then if you discover you are good at acting, you can take the next step which is getting some professional classes at a studio.  When you do that there are other steps to take to becoming an actor.  But you can't just go sign up somewhere and say "I want to try acting" and they put you in a film or tv show.
