  1. Do you have plenty experience?

If not, I would recommend filling out a resume.

Include even the simplest things like school "One Act Plays". Any creativity actions look good.

And please don't lie. They hate liars.

  2. set it up professinonally, use a binder and make a portfolio. Include activites you've done, plays, were you've worked. what you like to do. if you have a good disposition you're more likely to get chosen, but don't be shy, and look directly and who ever you're talking to. do be boastful either.

  3. If you would like, I would be more than happy to send you a copy of my resumé.

    Some standard issues:

Font wise, don't go below size 10. If they can't read your resumé, they're not going to go out of their way to try.

At the top, make sure you have some basic contact information -- home address (current address and a permanent address if the two are different), a home phone number, a mobile phone number, en email address, and a fax number if you've got it.

Next comes education -- if you're still in high school, don't worry about this. It will only take up space and it won't look impressive to simply say, "Graduate of Blahbidy Blah Middle School." If you're in college, it's alright to put your high school information, and once you're out of college, take off your HS stuff and replace it with your college credits, ESPECIALLY if you're major had something to do with theatre.

This is the outline of mine:

    Name

    Contact

    Plays

    Classes and Other Training

    Awards

If you're just starting out, feel free to put all you've got on here-- all the small parts, technical and acting-- even if you're audition for a play, put crew roles because it'll tell them that you're serious about acting. And a crew role holds a very respectable stance, especially if you were there for most of the rehearsals because you got to see how it was done.

Once you get some more experience, make a separate one for acting and a separate one for crew (unless you don't wish to pursue crew).

Training wise, include all classes and even workshops that you've done, and then, especially if the name of the class or workshop could be construed as ambiguous, have a section that says what you learned in that class or workshop.

Awards wise-- put all that you've got, and then eliminate what's not AS important when your resumé gets too big. Did you once win an 'Outstanding' label on an individual event somewhere? Best costumes? Most believable character in a one-act drama? You decide what to put on here.

Once your resumé gets very large--which is a good thing!-- take off either what you did the longest ago or a small part. So let's say you played Laurey in Oklahoma back in 1999? Off that goes. Or let's say you played ensemble in Once on This Island two months ago? Take that off.

Something else-- if you do something professional or with with a professional "someone-- it's alright to name drop but ONLY if you're on good speaking terms with this person. Say you put on your resumé "Secret Garden with Kendra Kassebaum"-- if you didn't talk very much with this actress, even if you were in it, and they contact Kendra somehow and ask about you, she won't know who you are and they'll automatically assume you made the whole thing up, and castors and directors HATE liars.

Also, if you did a play that had an original script or libretto, include that as well! It looks impressive.

With all of your plays, make sure to include the theatre it was at, the dates (or relative dates), the production (obviously), your part, and (I don't do this personally, but it's up to you if you want to) the director.

Additionally, do not make your resumé more than one page long. On the back of it, list your references.

But if you want to look at mine, please feel free to email me (in profile)!

I hope that this has helped!
