Acting for film?

I know it's what everyone wants to do, they want to be famous and they want to be in the movies and it's SO HARD to get into it. I have this crazy idea and i keep telling myself it wont work, but i cant stop thinking about it.

My idea is that i apply to be an extra in anything available, spend around 5 years learning the trade whilst i take acting and drama at my college. I just want to know what people think of this, i mean i know its a long shot, but we only get one life right? and if i dont try i'll never know.

So what do you think about my plan? do you have anything to add? it would be very helpful, thank you.

  1. My personal opinion, that is unlikely to work. It is hard to be taken seriously as a perpetual extra. You may want to consider trying to land lead roles in some theater productions.  Mix that up with some parts as an extra in films and your resume will look more impressive that way.

More than anything, the sad reality is that Hollywood is more about who you know. Try to sign with an agent after you've padded your resume somewhat. Network as much as possible, and the more you get your name out there, the more likely you are to be taken seriously as an actor an land that Hollywood gig that you dream of.

Basically it is really tough to break into this business, be aware of that reality, but if you really want it, don't let anyone tell you it is impossible.

  2. what kind?

  3. I say if that's what you want to do, go for it.

    :)

Cuz you're right, we only get one life, one shot.

  4. Go for it. The more you experience the more you discover where you talents are. As an artist you are learning all your life. And you learn more from your mistakes than from your success.
