Acting information?

Hi, I am a senior in high school(17 year old male). I am very interested in becoming an actor and i am in the top 10% of a class of 410. I am extremely hard working.

I've had some experience such as two school plays and am looking to do two more. I would love some information on how to expand and increase experience.

Also, i would like to know of some good colleges in the city that i can go to in order to study acting.

Thank you very much and if anyone has more information that they would like to share ... please email.

  1. Sounds like you're on the right track!  Keep up your involvement at school and in your community so that you can have an up-to-date resume going.

Best advice is to start small... some of the really well known acting schools are not only difficult to get into (and cost a lot of money) but they provide little onstage experience because of all the competition.  When you're in college, you need chances to perform and you need individual attention from your professors.

Also most universities who offer a masters in theatre tend to neglect the undergrads. I'd look for a program that only offers a Bachelors in theatre.

Go away for college! I give that advice to all high school kids, regardless of their intended major.

But don't go too far unless you have to.

Ideally look for a university 4-8 hours away from home that seems to have a good theatre dept (you can call/write to them and they can send you brochures) and do your best to learn as much as you can and make as many contacts as you can and save as much money as you can (without sacraficing too much... college is supposed to be fun!) so that when you graduate, you can take advantage of opportunities you've made.

    Best of luck!
