Question:

Action Devices for a TWH that Racks?

I'm not really into action devices myself, but my teacher told me to look up action devices. I have a Ten. Walking Horse that racks, but she says that he could be shown in style racking if I could use some action devices.

Easyboots. Do you think those could help him preform a big l**k?

Chains, Straps, etc - do they hurt the horse?

I refuse to put those permanent horse boots or pads on him, because I also want to show him flat shod.

Help, please?

  1. Yes, those devices do hurt the horse. I live close to Shelbyville Tn. where the Walking Horse Celebration is held every year. Lst year there was a lot of controversy about soring and chains on horses. I'm glad you are not putting platforms on him. Have him shoes for flat shod and you should be fine.

  2. I wouldnt use chains...they can be very hurtful and cut the horses ankles. I think i saw some sort of weight that is wrapped in neoprene so it could be very comfy for the horse. I personally am not fond of racking very high because it is so artifical. Have you ever noticed that some horses dont look very happy doing it? I used to ride TWH at their natural gait s and it was soo fun.

    Happy riding!

  3. Just want to clear up something.  Chains/Straps/Rollers,etc alone do not hurt a horse.  Its when they have been sored and they have raw skin with a device hitting the raw skin that is painful.  To a normal healthy horse is just like wearing a heavy charm bracelet.

Why would you need to use action devices?  Aren't flat shod horses shown without chains?  Is the horse trotty or not moving correctly?  If so how because different kinds and placement work differently?
