Actiontec MI424WR router problem

hey I'm just having a few problems with connecting to the Internet (FIOS) on my computer. The router is plugged into my computer and provides perfect Internet connections for things acessing the network wirelessly. My desktop though, whichthe router is hooked up to, can't connect to the Internet though. It connects to an unidentiied network with local only access. Even when I go to the device manager on the computer, the router doesn't even show up, even though everything is plugged in fine. I've even switched the Ethernet cables, but got the same results for every cable I used. All the lights on the route are on, so why isn't it working properly? It just started doing this today

  1. If you have FiOS TV you may want to see if the VOD (Video On Demand) listing comes up (don't actually order one, just see if it downloads the list of available movies) because that uses the internet connection.  If that doesn't work you need to contact Verizon and find out where everything got screwed up.

Unplug your ActionTec router for 5 minutes to make it "forget" your computer and see if that works.  While it's turned off, reboot your computer for good measure so the computer "forgets" it's IP address in case there was a conflict.

Unplugging it won't mess up anything important or cause you other computer(s) and/or TV boxes to have a problem but they may take 30 seconds or so to reconnect when you plug the router back in.

Call Verizon support, they can help you set it up to work again.  I had something like this with one of our FiOS TV recievers that wouldn't talk to the router anymore.

Verizon used proprietary software on all their stuff, and it has bugs...
