Question:

Active directory in Vista?

Hey I'm using Windows Vista ultimate and I want to set up a group policy for all the users of a certain group local on this computer. From what I know you can't set up a group policy to specifically target 1 group from the windows mmc. At work we use active director to do that, over a larger server domain, however I don't know how to install it. So if anyone could tell me how to activate/install active directory, or how to create a group policy for 1 specific group I'll give you 10 points.

Thanks

  1. Active Directory can only be installed on Windows servers, 2000, 2003, and 2008.

Vista is not a server operating system.

However, you can use local policy that applies to all the users without having an AD.

You can google the MS technet for specifics.

  2. The first person is correct. If you are just using 1 computer, try Windows SteadyState.
