how does molecules move into and out of the cell during active transport?

  1. During active transport, molecules move into and out of the cell through proteins. Sometimes these proteins are called pumps and are driven by ATP hydrolysis. A Phosphate group (from the ATP) will bind to the protein, which opens the pump.
