OK so I went to the att website to listen to ringtones to buy, but the songs won't play...the information bar pops up to warn me...it said if i want to continue on the page to run active x? What exactly is Active X? and Should I run it? is it even safe, how do I know if its safe? is there any way around it so i don't run the active x, but still listen to the ring tones?

Sorry so many questions...not much of a computer person. I have windows vista and the free version of the AVG antivirus (8.0 version). if that helps at all....thanks...just got the computer about a month ago...so i don't want anything bad to happen, i.e. viruses and such...

  1. AT&T is a safe site to allow Active X.  That being said, Active X can be an avenue to virus / malware infection. So, don't routinely allow it on every site. When you get a warning like you did with AT&T, you need to decide if the site can be trusted before allowing it.

Big mainstream sites (not myspace) are generally pretty safe.

You may want to check out Comodo BOClean. It stops alot of baddies when they try to install. It's pretty much set and forget, and free. Be sure to read and understand the directions.
