I'm a nanny for a five year old and I go there every week well the mom leaves town for work. I found that art actives help her not miss her mom so much, but I'm running out of ideas. SO I really would like some really creative ideas not the basic painting and stuff and if anyone knows of a great art activity book and where I could find it that would be great to. Thank you so much and have a great day.

    Paint a picture.

    Finger Paint.

    Read a book

    Play outside with her.

    Play a game.

    Make up a game.

    Play dress up.

Make crafts out of paper buy some construction paper, scissors, glue and crayons.(very cheap probably about 5$)

    Talent show

Maybe do a little make up and do her hair of the mom doesn't mind.

Make cupcakes and putt her name on one.

Take her for a walk in a park or in the neighborhood.

Talk to her ask her what she likes to do and go from their.

    Play cards.

They have kids card games like go fish, old maid, hearts in the dollar store.

    Hope I've Helped.

    Good Luck.

  4. Go to the book store. You can read him a few books while you are there & pick up one for yourself. They have a lot of "art activities for kids" kind of books for kids of all ages.

  5. The kids I nanny are a little younger but I love arts and crafts so I've sort of forced them into it!  There are so many little variations on stuff, but here are some things I do with my kids:

-Get BIG paper (newsprint is cheap)  This is good for tracing shadows outside, making pointy princess hats or tracing the kid onto two pieces of paper taped lengthwise and then having her draw in features.  If she's not a great drawer, you can cut eyes, noses, mouths out of fashion magazines and use wrapping paper or scrapbooking paper or just colored construction paper for clothes.

-Paint outside with food!  This is a great variation on fingerpaint.  You can use colored yogurts, chocolate pudding, ketchup.  DON'T use drink mix because it stains TERRIBLY.

-Tie-dye!  T-shirts are cheap at the craft store or ask mom if she has old ones you can "ruin".  Rubber bands are hard for a five-year-old to manipulate but if you use string instead and tie knots it's good shoelace practice!  Rubber-maid-type bins are great to the dye, make sure to pick colors that mix pretty (blue and red into purple, as opposed to orange and green that made a muddy brown).

-Pipe-cleaner button flowers: have her color a circle of construction paper, then poke a pipe cleaner up through the center, then up through one hole of a button, down through another button hole and through the middle of the flower again, and twist the loose end of the pipe cleaner around the "stem".  These are really pretty and a couple of my families have them in their windowsills still.

-Salt dough-- look up the recipe online but it's basically salt, flour, and water (add a little food coloring for colors).  It's totally safe (though gross) to eat, but work it on wax paper if there's food coloring so you don't stain the table.  You can bake it in the oven at low temperatures to dry it out, so you can make  beads, picture frames, animals, handprints, you name it.

-Cook or bake with her!  let her stand on a chair in the kitchen with yout.  Pre-measure the ingredients into little bowls and let her pour them in as you mix.  This works great with fast stuff like rice krispies treats.  You can also have her help you assemble cool-whip and graham cracker sandwiches before nap, then eat them as a snack afterward.

-Take digital photos and print them out on printer paper so that she can cut them out and make a 'scrapbook' of what you and she did while mom was out of town.  You can let her paste them in a few sheets of construction paper tied together with yarn, or get more fancy with nicer paper and fastenings.  Stickers, glitter glue, etc.  If you can't take photos, have her draw, or tell you what to draw on decorated pages.

    - Go for walks, then draw a map of where you walked and what you saw.  One of my charges has the north pole and a lion on his walking map, so encourage her to be creative.

If you can drive her places, craft stores have free or cheap kids craft classes nearly every weekend.

Hopefully these ideas inspire you!  Good luck.

  6. Kids love helping out. You could bring the ingredients to make bread or pie, then have her help by letting her dump the ingredients in, mixing, and watching it grow in the oven. Finger painting, making masks out of paper plates, making edible Play-Doh, and making animals out of paper scraps are little things that 5 year olds also enjoy. You could also suggest making a card for her mom for when she gets home. For the little girls birthday week, you could even decorate a cake, or make paper cakes.

  7. you can play dress up or have a talent show!

or most little girls love make-up so maybe do her hair and give her a makeover!

    good luck!

  8. Play-doh and clay are fun for five year olds.  You can buy craft kits at Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart.

Remember children don't mind repeats as much as adults so don't worry

I remember when I was in first grade (I am 34 now) but we would have cleaning day but it was Art afternoon and our teacher would make popcorn for us while we watched a movie, then after that she would spray our desk w/ a foam cleaning product that we got to make pictures in the foam ~ she allowed us to have I think 2-3 sprays but the last one we got our sponge to clean all the dirt away after she gave us a paper towel to dry.

Day over ;~)  I loved those days so much
