Activities and festivities on the 90th staging of the Valero Texas Open – Golf News
A number of activities and festivities have been planned around the Valero Texas Open, scheduled to start from April 19 to 22, 2012, to celebrate its 90th founding anniversary.
JW Marriott’s stunning San Antonio resort made the announcement of the celebrations, while the players were arriving at the venue to participate in the event.
Arthur Coulombe, the General Manager of JW Marriott San Antonio, expressed his excitement over hosting the historical event.
He said that the resort and golf courses were designed to set new standards in the area while providing state-of-the-art facilities to the visitors.
Moreover, he said that he feels proud of being the host of many great players from all over the world, coming to compete at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.
While marking its 90th staging, the event is one of the oldest golf tournaments around the world as well as on the PGA Tour.
Apart from that, San Antonio has now become the oldest host city to stage a PGA Tour event. The tournament was scheduled at different courses at different times. Yet, the host city remained the same throughout its inception in 1922.
The defending champion, Brendan Steele, has also confirmed to return to the event in order to make another good run in the historical event.
“It is a great honor and privilege to continue the rich tradition of the Valero Texas Open by hosting the historic 90th Anniversary event. This will be our third time to play host at TPC San Antonio,” said TPC San Antonio General Manager and Director of
Golf, Jimmy Terry.
“The AT&T Oaks course is in wonderful condition and should prove to be a beautiful and challenging setting for the players. We are looking forward to the competition and seeing who will be the 2012 Champion,” he added.
The resort has also offered a special Stay & Play Unlimited Golf promotion to golf lovers to give them a chance to play on the same course where the professionals play.
The package includes a luxurious room, unlimited number of rounds on the private TPC San Antonio courses for one or two people, practice balls, range balls and a Golf Cart to move freely on the course.
