other than arts and crafts... what games are there on for month? My activities should be based on the Go, Grow and Glow foods. Last year, the school did a "food parade" where the children dressed up as healthy foods and paraded around the school. Are there any other suggestions?? internet is not such a big help

  1. Go to www.ask.com   then type in What are go, grow and glow foods?   There are many options and some where schools and the government have information too.

There is a pyramid too and here is some info I took off of a link.

    Eat a variety of foods

Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains

Eat lower fat foods more often

    Get your calcium-rich foods

    Be physically active

You could dress up as Farmers who tend to fruits, veggies and grains.

You could do something about dairy as they are rich in calcium.

You could do something about physical education too.....as you should be physically active.

  2. you could have like them make something healthy, with their parents, at home and then bring it in and then make it into a contest and have a winner for the best tasting healthy food. or you could have like a bunch of healthy food in a classroom and have the children make it there.

  3. how about involving the families of the kids?  we did a week of 'challenges'.  each day the kids would do an activity and the teacher would chart their outcome.  one day they would see how many jumping jacks they each could do, one day how many times they could each jump rope, one day of how many toe touches, one day of hula hoops, etc.  you get the idea.  then on the last day (friday) we had a parent event.  all the parents came and they were challenged to break their child's record for each event.  the losers had to prepare a healthy snack/treat for the winners.  my center provided all the snack makings and recipes.  then while everyone was eatting it gave me a great opportunity to speak to the families about the necessity of good eatting and exercise.  we gave out a cookbook we put together on healthy recipes and coloring sheets from the internet.  the parents loved it and it became a yearly event during 'healthy kids week'.  it's really important to involve the parents to try to change the eatting habits of the entire family.

    good luck.

  4. A competition on who can make the most interesting works of art using healthy foods.
