I had to come up with 36 activities for this book. I need a few more.

I need 2 for the block center. I already have stack blocks, put on sheet=ghost; and build a place for the moose to live.

I need 3 for the sand/water table. I have play woth socks on hands; play with muffin pan, cpoon and beads to make muffins.

THen, I need 3 more for music and movement. I have-play Hot Muffin (instead of hot potato); paint to the beat.

Obviously I am not very creative. THANKS

  1. There is a game where you have winter clothing in a pile a few feet from the playing group (4-8 kids).  Each kid in the group takes turns rolling a dice.  If they roll a 6, they try to put on all of the winter clothing before any other rolls a 6.  If they can get it all on before anyone else rolls a 6, they win by eating a cookie (a muffin in this case).  If anyone else rolls a 6 before the other player is dressed, they have to take it all off and the other player tries to get it back on.  It would work as a movement activity for about grades 3-5

  3. Blocks: I don't know off-hand, but you could find out how tall and long a moose really is and try stacking blocks that high/long to show how big a real moose is.

What if you build a puppet stage in the block area to use the puppets you make?

Sand/water table: Hmmm - that's a bit tougher. What about mixing a bit of water with the sand and using muffin tins to make "sand muffins" (kind of like how you make sand castles)?

    Music/movement: Sing "The Muffin Man"

I hope you already have cooking real muffins and making a graph to show children's favorite flavors? I love cooking with preschoolers!!

    Hope this helps!

  4. You can sing: Do you know the Muffin Man...

You can also sing Who stole the MUFFINS (instead of Cookie) from the Muffin Tin. When a name is said, hold up the child's name and they have to come up and get it.

Also, you can take the main words from the story and have the small groups play a game such as musical chairs.  When the music stops they have to step on the word (card) and read it or repeat the word after the teacher reads it.

Also- since it is a circle story, do lots with circles.  Have the kids stand in a circle.  Something simple to reinforce that it begins where it ends.  Kid #1 holds a fake muffin and passes it to kid #2 and so on until it ends up where it began!
