  1. For the crafting- check out Oriental Trading.  They specialize in crafty kits, and the prices are great.  If you are dealing with a girl scout troop, they are just ideal.  A lot of the kits come in packages of a dozen, with individual kits all ready to go.  All you supply is the glue- and they also sell glue dots.  That will take care of the crafting at a price you won't faint at.  For the cooking, just about anything goes.  Depending on the time you have available to you, you can do all sorts of things.  Try making butter from cream, using a glass spaghetti sauce jar.   You can get cookbooks especially for kids that age range, with foods that are fun and easy to make- written in a format they can follow pretty easily.  I had a Betty Crocker "Cooking with kids" mine used.  Emeril Lagasse also did one, "There's a Chef in My Soup" that was nice too.  Use a little food chopper to handle the cutting end of things, and a small paring knife.  Also, as a craft activity- you can make small aprons out of plastic vinyl or oilcloth to protect the clothing when cooking.  The dollar stores usually have cheapie vinyl tableclothes you can cut for the material, and you can glue the ties on with hot glue.  Not fancy, but it works.  Good luck, and be sure to check out Oriental Trading.  They are on the web, at http://www.orientaltrading.com
