Does anyone know any activities or games I can play with my 2 year old nephew? Or do you know of any websites he can play games on or do activities on? He has a really short attention span so I need a few things I can try.

  1. He is two years old, his attention span is going to be very short.

Go outside, trow/roll the ball, go for walks, and let him examine his surroundings in a safe manner.

Read a short story, watch a 15 minute video, if he'll last that long.

Built a tower out of blocks, and let him play demolition derby with it.

Spray some shaving cream on the counter top and show him how to draw in it.

Finger paint is lots of fun too.

After all that he is ready for a snack, and a nap.

  2. Well, if he is 2 but closer to 3, you can try www.starfall.com

You can find a playdough recipe online and he can help make it with you. You can also add Koolaide to any of the recipies for color and scent just for fun.

You can sit a read a few books too. "TAILS" by Matthew Van Fleet is one my girls loved just about that age. Anything with lift the flaps or moving parts is great for that age range.

You can sing a bunch of songs. Old McDonald, ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle, anything with body movements. Be silly when you sing too. While doing Old McDonald be really loud and silly when you make the animal sounds, maybe move around like that animal. Wheels on the bus is another great one.

You can get out a cookie sheet and put magnets on it. The letter magnets are great.... only 0.88 at walmart.

You can also do Brown Bear with 'puppets'. I just print out coloring sheets off the internet or use large coloring book pages. Color the picture with one main color, say a frog would be green. Then you would say Green frog Green frog what do you see, I see a Green frog looking at me. Color the Bear brown and it would be Brown Bear Brown Bear...... There is a book you can find at the library called Brown Bear( I think ) that you can read first then do the puppets. You can do a search online, I found printables once a long time ago that I printed and colored in, then laminated and glued to a craft stcik. My kids loved them and they were fairly unbreakable.

    Good luck and have fun

  3. Fisher Toys has some cool things

  4. welll, in the summer is probably a good time to go outside, and to (baby/kiddie) parks (the ones with gates and things)

also, maybe he likes to color. or something. my baby brother likes to take ppls pencils and draw on our work, so for christmas we got him a coloring book and some crayons. for winter i guess you could do hide and seek, the oldies! ya kno!

  5. First, before you get frustrated.......remember this: The 3 yr old will build tall towers.......while the 2 yr old will kick them down, to see how far they go! Seriously, 2 yr olds have their own way of playing. Their whole regime in life as a 2 yr old is to see 'what will happen if I...........(whatever!)'..........It's a totally testing time. Try playing 'hide the toy'. Remember this: The 2 yr old will play the game, as long as you hide the toy in the same place every time. Let the 2 yr old hide the toy from you, too. Don't worry, the 2 year old will hide it where he/she found it, last time.  If you have pots and pans. a wooden spoon, and don't mind if the 2 yr old uses the spoon to make 'music' on your pans, allow the 2 yr old to do that.

  6. if you have him for more than an hour or so, mix it up. be sure to do some active play things that will get his little body moving as well as some quiet time play.

2 year olds are very curious and want to understand how the world works. this means that anything valuable you don't want broken you should lock up or put up somewhere hard to reach.

that said, most anything can be a fun toy for 2 year olds. heck, grab some of your clothes, big clunky shoes, long dresses or wildly colored shirts with snaps or buttons and let him play dress up. yes, even boys like this and no, they won't become g*y from it. hats or wigs were always popular with all of the kids at my day care center. then have him check himself out in the mirror. you can even have him dance with you in his fancy outfit. play some fun, fast music without bad language and he'll go bananas. you can even find kid radio friendly stations on the internet like radio disney, etc.

or you can sing him a bunch of songs and dance with him. teach him to dance the hokey pokey or to do head, shoulders, knees, and toes for a wild time. or 'if you're happy and you know it' and make up stuff like 'jump up and down, rub your belly, or tap your feet'. sing with him all of your favorite songs from when you were little, he may even know some of them.

when he gets his energy out by moving he'll be able to do some quiet time stuff with you. lap time is great, you can look at a book with him, even look through a magazine and just talk about the pictures. ask him open ended questions like 'what's in that picture? what is that animal doing? where is that man going?' just getting him talking and thinking will be good fun.

if you need more ideas i highly recommend going to your local library with a children's section. you can check out some board books that he won't be able to do too much damage to as well as more books with ideas for you.

mostly just have fun with your nephew. he will keep you busy but he will have such a good time learning from you.

    Hope this help

  9. That is exactly what I was going to say, Corinne!  Pots and pans - and empty boxes.  2 year olds love to fill things up and empty them out.  Just let him enjoy and make sure he plays safely.
