Question:

Activities for children...?

I have to plan an activity for children that promotes an awareness of issues that affect energy or food resources.

Can anyone think of anything I could do? I'm really stuck and can't think of anything!

Thanks in advance :)

  1. Maybe the kids could try growing bean seeds in a closet, with another group growing bean seeds in a sunny window. Both will get water, but only one group gets sun, one gets darkness. Have the kids compare the effect of light energy and absence of light. If light is energy, then this is an activity that would work for you. But I'm not sure it actually answers your question for preschool children.

  2. 1. Take the children out for a nature walk. Teach them that the plants need sunlight and energy from the sun to grow as well as water and oxygen. You can show then that nature is a good source for the foods they eat and a lot of food they eat comes from the ground.

    2. You could do an experiment over time growing tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers... something to show them how to make their own veggies or fruits.

    3. You could find a book of some sort on global warming and read it to them. Then after the story, have them discuss what would happen to the plants and the grown food if the global warming becomes so bad that it damages our crops.

    I hope that helps =]
