Activities in Pacific side of Costa Rica?

Question

I'm going to Costa Rica for a vacation soon with my family (ages 12,15,16 and 50) and we're looking for an area on the pacific where I can

-do horseback riding on the beach

-zip-line in canopies

-snorkeling

-possibly surfing lessons

Please recommend some places where I can do these on the Pacific Coast (I heard the Caribbean cost has bad river run-off and crime). Thanks so much!

Jaco you have all you want to do .....have fun and enjoy it

Like in every place around the world use common and sense when you travel.

The one problem about Jaco is that you will not really be in Costa Rica; you will be like in any other tourist place. – I do not recommend Jaco.

On the Pacific coast the places to go are:

• Playa Conchal

• Mal Pais

• Playa Tambor

• Maybe – just maybe Playa Flamingo (too many tourists)

On the Caribbean side go to:

• Puerto Viejo (only if you are traveling with a companion), you will be just fine.

If you are interested in volcanoes then visit Volcan Arenal and stay  over night, you can see the lava flowing down the side of the volcano (pretty cool stuff) OR the Irazu and Poas volcanoes, they are not as dramatic, but you will see a volcano crater as near as you can ever be.

In San Jose – do NOT waist any time – not much to see or do.

Hotels to stay in San Jose:

• Gran Hotel Costa Rica – Will put on the middle of all the action

Do NOT wonder around alone – That goes for Costa Rica or any other country in the world!

Most of all, have fun, relax… if you follow common and sense you will be just fine.
