I have a 14 month old and he is getting into everything. I need help with different activites and games that I can play with him. He doesn't watch tv and I really don't like him to anyways. He likes books but after a few minutes sends them flying.

  1. A great activity is help him explore different textures. For example, fill bowls with cold and warm water and teach him the difference between them. You can also have a hard ball and a soft ball that look the same but have a different color. You will be surprised how quickly they pick up on the differences and learn to figure things out.

  2. Play peek-a-boo with him.  Do you have a swing set or park near by for early morning or afternoon when it's not too hot yet?  You could get a small blow up pool for him to splash around in if he likes the water.  Maybe a playdate a few times a week would help keep him occupied also, playing with other kids is always a plus.  My son is 15mos old and someone gave him a "little people" zoo train that he seems to enjoy.  He pretty much just likes running around the house chasing me or his older brother also.  Go for walks in a stroller, 10-15 mins for them is long enough to keep them occupied for a while, then you can move on to something else.  Best of luck!

  3. My son started learning his shapes and colors at 14 months.  I bought shape flash cards and made colored ones.  I would lay them out on the floor and ask him to bring me a specific shape or color.  He absoulutely loved this game.  Them I would ask him to get specific card and bring it to a specific person. And then he would have to remember 2 steps.  He is 21 months now, And although he knows all his shapes and colors he still ask to play with his flash cards.  I plan on buying some alphabet flash cards and doing the same thing.
